The Alaska Alumnae Chapter
of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated
Greetings and thank you for visiting!
Welcome to the official website of the Alaska Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. My name is Dr. Yolanda M. Ikner, and I am a proud member of the Alaska Alumnae chapter based in Anchorage, Alaska.
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is an organization of college-educated women committed to the constructive development of its members and to scholarship, service, and addressing the social issues of the time.
The sorority was founded on Christian principles and carries out the mission to provide unique chapter programs that support the organization’s Five Point Programmatic Thrust.
Educational Development: The Alaska Alumnae chapter funds and implements three youth initiatives. Delta Academy is a program for young women (ages 11-14) dedicated to achievement in their present and future. EMBODI is a program for young men (ages 11-18) dedicated to leadership in all fields of study. Delta GEMS is a program for young women (ages 14-18) aimed at successful college entry and completion. Each of these programs has courses on leadership, financial management, political action, and professional preparation.
Economic Development: The Alaska Alumnae chapter is focused on providing resources to the Anchorage community regarding proper financial management and home ownership. This year we are working diligently to support small businesses owned by women and minorities.
Physical & Mental Health: The Alaska Alumnae chapter believes that physical and mental health are the cornerstones to self-worth and self-development. We are involved in a number of worthy causes including the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk and the Alaska Run for Women. Both events provide us with the opportunity to get healthy and raise money for worthwhile organizations dedicated to supporting women.
International Awareness & Involvement: Alaska is a remote and unique state with resource challenges. In an effort to bring awareness to the difficulty for remote communities, the Alaska Alumnae chapter is dedicated to providing goods and services to those in need. This year we will partner with the Korea Alumnae chapter to provide support to Jacob's House, a children's orphanage in Korea.
Political Awareness & Involvement: The Alaska Alumnae chapter's lifeline is social action. Simply put, without action, there is no power. This year we will travel to Juneau to make our political voice known to those making decisions in Alaska.
Our chapter is actively engaged in the community by advocating for social justice issues, enhancing the economic development of the black community, supporting international awareness initiatives, and promoting healthy lifestyles for physical and mental health.
Thank you for visiting our website. We invite you to visit our site and social platforms regularly for highlights, upcoming programming, and activities performed in the name of our glorious Sisterhood.
In Sisterhood and Service,
Dr. Yolanda M. Ikner
